Breath control is only one of many elements of singing. If you do not develop a good breathing technique while singing, you can breathe at an inopportune times or sing with less than optimal timbre. Singers do breathing exercises to become better at controlling their diaphragm muscles.
Medical conditions aside, the typical singer just need to learn breath control while singing.
Things you will need:
Candle
Matches or lighter
stopwatch or clock (optional)
Timing and Pacing
1 Take a deep breath for more than four seconds. Pace yourself so that you inhale evenly.
2 Hold your breath for four seconds.
3 Breathe out evenly over four seconds.
4 Wait four seconds before repeating the process from step 1. Repeat the exercise a few times from step one
Candle exercise
5 Light a candle and hold it so that the wick is about half a meter away from your mouth.
6 Take a deep breath.
7 Pucker your lips like you’re going to blow the flame out.
8 blow the candle, allowing you to bend causing the flame, but not out.
9 Count how many seconds you can blow into the fire.
10 Repeat the exercise and try the duration you can blow flame during bending, but not put to enlarge it.
Volume
11 Take a deep breath.
12 Make your normal speaking level, the “sss” sound out the words “snake” or “Sally”.
13 Maintenance same volume and sound quality for as long as you can by exhaling into a steady pace, while the timing of the term. If you do it right you will make in emulating the “sizzle” sound a snake.
14 Repeat the exercise and try to increase how long you can perform the exercise.

Being able to sing vibrato is nothing more than a slight change in the frequency of a note, whether consciously or not. When the vibrato is unconscious, or unintentionally so, it should be treated through exercises to control it.
For those who do not know what we mean, imagine the sound produced by a goat, it is something close to that. Perhaps the example sounds exaggerated, but it really isn't. The video below should give you an idea of how to sing vibrato.
WHAT IS NEEDED FOR A GOOD VIBRATO?
The base of the vibrato is the breath and voice support, when you do not have a correct diaphragmatic support, it is impossible to have full control of your vibrato and sustaining notes.
A few articles ago, in learning to sing, I mentioned the importance of not skipping stages. The reason being, that one of the techniques outlined in the singing course was about how to breath properly. Here is why learning the right breathing technique is so important, if you do not have the right breathing it’s impossible to be any good at singing vibrato.
HOW TO TRAIN TO SING VIBRATO
First of all, as I've mentioned, to have good vibrato you need have good technique. After that, you can study many other techniques, the most effective is the use of a metronome; starting at a low speed and going up gradually and thus training the control of vibrato.
Here on the site you can find vibrato exercises and singing lesson so you can learn to take full control of this technique.
VIBRATO IS THE BASES TO ALL OTHER TECHNIQUES
The reason for this is for any technique that you study, you will need to have full control of vibrato, which in turn improves your vocal agility. The ability to control your voice without straining (which is based in bad technique) is crucial not just to sing vibrato, but to sing clearly and well in general.
part1
Producing vibrato naturally
Open the back of your throat. To do this, simply yawn. Try to keep the yawning sensation in the mouth and throat while singing. Can you imitate this same feeling without yawning? To sing well (and vibrato) you need to relax and open up. If your throat is closed, the sound will not flow and your tone will not be powerful and rich. You may reach some notes, but your total range will be compromised.
Relax the muscles completely. If you do not relax, you can not sing with vibrato. The technique should come naturally if you relax and do not force your voice. Release the tension in the body. Move your neck in a circular motion, stretching to the sides. This includes all the muscles of the face and head, too, as his jaw and tongue. These parties should do little effort, is to sing in a standard tone or vibrato.
To breathe properly, you need posture. To master the airflow (which is extremely important) you need to maintain good posture. To do this place foot slightly ahead of the other, the neck, head and torso should be straight. The subglottic pressure is controlled by the abdomen, lower back, chest and gluteal muscles.
If you are sitting, stand on the edge of a chair with your back straight, looking forward. Even if you are reading the lyrics, be straight.
Sing with your diaphragm. Breathe deeply. Your shoulders should not rise, or your diaphragm should descend. When singing a note, focus on naturalness. Let it flow.
Singing itself does not require hard work. If you feel you are forcing a particular sound, it’s because you’re doing it wrong. The vibrato is natural – it does not work, do not force. For now, you should focus on other aspects of voice. Vibrato is the icing on the cake, not the mass of flour. He comes last.
Your respiratory flow should be constant. Do not breathe or breathing without rhythm is common in time to sing. To produce the sound you want, keep the amount of constant and equal air. Otherwise, your vibrato will fluctuate throughout the environment.
In addition to consistency, you need to always release the same amount of air for your vibrato has consistency. Otherwise, your vibrato lose strength or will be short and fast – and the two situations should be avoided.
Be subtle. You’ve probably heard singers with vibrato so strong that end up dominating the music. They just do not stop and end up becoming a distraction. Do not be one of those singers. The vibrato is much more interesting when it’s light and natural. It should be like an unexpected ice cream and not an ice cream that's been smeared everywhere.
Moreover, you need to know when the vibrato is appropriate – that is certainly not all the time. If you sing the whole song in one note, it is not interesting. If you sing the whole song in vibrato, it also will not be interesting. So, make use of the technique in moderation, alternating as needed or as appropriate to find.
Master other techniques, if necessary. If the vibrato does not come naturally, don't feel down about it. Many professionals perform the vibrato in the wrong way or just pretend (you’ll see more details below). The vibrato is a consequence of vocal practice. That said, keep working your voice and eventually you’ll get there. By having more technical knowledge, vibrato will come to you easily.
Concentrate on the resonance and pitch instead. You will develop the right vocal habits, and be able to breathe naturally and be relaxed.
Understanding the true vibrato
Your vibrato will develop at the right time if you sing properly. Some singing teachers will help you focus on your vibrato by spending time on stimulus exercises. However, this will not be the true vibrato, but a kind of imitation. If sing correctly, the vibrato will come naturally as a result.
This is an aspect of singing that comes with time and there is no magic formula for developing technique. It takes a good tone and supportive breathing before you can progress with this style of singing.
Understand what is vibrato. Technically speaking, vibrato is a homogeneous oscillation in a note. It is a small natural variation of tone, and the note is clear and defined. It can not be naturally manipulated.
Most people believe that the vibrato adds depth to the voice. It is perceived in the ears as a change in tone, but, in fact, the tone does not change.
Understand their usefulness. Of course, the vibrato is cool sound, but it is also useful for the voice. Not only is it the centre of all tones, but it also helps the muscles to relax. Basically, your larynx pulsates to handle the pressure it is receiving. It is there to protect your vocal cords of from any kind of damage.
Think of it like lifting weights. When your muscles are under pressure, they automatically begin to shake. Have you ever thought why this happens? The pulsating mechanism of the larynx is basically doing the same thing.
Understand that vibrato is not the same as swing or tremolo. Many people “fake” their vibrato due to poor training or lack of knowledge, failing to deliver the natural tone. #
Let’s look a little more at the other variations.
Trillo. Sounds like a bleating goat. It fact, it is a very fast vibrato staccato. It happens when breathing does not have enough support and the sound is dispersed.
Wobble. It occurs when the cycles are slow and scattered. There is a greater variation in tone, too. Usually this happens when there is a lack of concentration in tone or lack of support in breathing.
Tremolo. In contrast to the “Wobble” (which is slow), the tremolo is actually very fast. It occurs when there is a lot of glottal pressure, resulting in tension around the base of the tongue.
Part3
Exercises to produce a sound similar to vibrato
Try an exercise for the diaphragm. Put your hands at the end of the chest where the ribs meet. Now move your hands a little lower (in the soft area just above the navel). Sing a note in a comfortable height for you. As you do this, push the belly with your hands. Push release, push again and so on. Do this exercise at a pace of three to four cycles per second.
Place a finger in the larynx. Some teachers recommend students to put a finger on the larynx, moving it back and forth while singing in a monotone. This will result in a sound similar to the vibrato, but as I said before, this is not the true vibrato. Still, it will give you an idea of how the muscles can work in new ways.
Do not rely entirely on these exercises. As I have mentioned many times, the real and natural vibrato appears by itself. These exercises are only for you to see your voice in other ways.
Switch between two notes. A higher score and one that is half step down. This is another method that teachers use to teach students. You must switch between two notes, increasing the speed until it is similar to a vibrato. The objective is to achieve six to eight cycles per second.
As you may already assume, this is also not a vibrato, it is an imitation technique to achieve a similar sound. Just remember that alternating notes should be at a maximum distance of half tone of each other.
By the way, this type of exercise usually results in a tremolo. The volume changes while the tone remains the same, ie is not a vibrato. However, you can get an idea of how muscles work.
Do not get the “Jawbone Gospel.” You know those singers that move the jaw every alternation of vibrato? It’s not something that you should emulate. Your jaw must be fully relaxed during singing, like the rest of his body. Yes, move your jaw can imitate the sound, but it is not natural, nor healthy.
The term “jaw Gospel” comes from the fact that many gospel singers sing that way.Another known name is “Vibrato jaw” because the sound is not designed their vocal cords, but your jaw movement.
Tips
Do not exaggerate. If singing incorrectly, not only you will not make the vibrato, as will force the voice.
A vibrato comes when you relax your throat and push the diaphragm. It is the result of relaxation of the external laryngeal muscles, which are unable to remain standing in position at the moment the sound is emitted.
The vibrato happens when your voice changes quickly between two different sounds. The scope of a vibrato can vary greatly. Some people have shorter vibrato while others have wider vibrato.
CONCLUSION
Not every musical style fits the vibrato, but study and research it, and you will be amazed at how much you can create with this technique. For more techniques, and to learn to sing in vibrato take a look HERE
Want To Know How To Sing Like Mariah Carey? Here’s How!
Do you want to know how to sing like Mariah Carey? Hit those earth shattering high notes while still maintaining voice control? First, you need to improve your overall singing technique, including you vocal range. You will also need to practice the way the pros do, such as heating your voice before singing and standing with correct posture. You can also use some general tips to help you sing better and sound more like Mariah Carey.
Method 1 singing like Carey
Working in holding long notes. Carey is known for being able to hold long notes (up to 20 seconds).
Practice holding notes for as long as possible. We chose a single syllable and note, like “ah.”
Take a deep breath and then try to hold the note as long as you can. Time yourself while you do it, so you can see the improvement.
Practice every day to improve your lung capacity over time.
Method 2 how to sing like Mariah Carey
Use airy tones. Carey tends to pull airy tones, sometimes after hitting high notes. However, only use them sparingly, as most voice coaches consider tyoura voice weakness. Carey makes her a strong, belted notes that phase in airy tones.
Most amateur singers have no problem with airy notes, as airy notes are created by improper technique. It’s strong, belted notes that are more difficult.
Learn the belt. Belting is the ability to pull your chest voice in your head voice.
Separate your voice from your chest to head voice. your chest voice is your mid-range voice. You will notice the vocal vibrations are mostly on your chest. As you go further in your range, you will feel your head voice kick in as the sound moves from the front of the mouth behind.
Choose a space where you can make as much noise as you want. Relax any tension in your shoulders, taking a few deep breaths.
Decrease your jaw and lift the soft palate. The soft palate is the roof of your mouth. soft palate elevation creates a better sound, more resonant. Using a mirror, say “hung-ah,” and see how your palate moves. You should be able to feel what you need to do to raise the soft palate.
Use less air as you move to higher grades.
Pull the sound forward to the front of your face.
Method 4 singing like Carey
Working in a clear tone. Although Carey employed a breathy tone, it has a very clear, resonant tone most of the time.
One way to develop a clear tone is practicing “saying” different words in certain fields. It is easier to hear how to clarify the tone when her speak the words, and cross to sing.
How to sing acapella precisely. Acapella basically means singing either in group or solo, but without the support of musical instruments, the entire song rests on the voice of the singers or singer. To learn how to sing acapella, requires most styles of singing and perhaps even more, because acappella singers don’t have the luxury of instruments as support. Below is an example of how to sing acapella.
There are things you can do to learn to sing this way on your own, although the of a singing teacher can help polish vocal issues you may not notice. You need to develop the right intonation, the ability to sing in tune, and be able to determine the tones of a song based on one . Also, you will need to learn to sing in harmony on a melody, this will help significantly if you choose to join an acapella group.
Warm up your voice doing the exercises proper breathing, singing scales or other routines prompted by your singing teacher.
Scales can be played on your piano or keyboard, start with C and increase (C, D, E, F, G, A, B and C) or A decrease (A, B, C, D, E, F, G and TO). Listen carefully to each note and sing the note that matches the tone you are playing. Use a piano or keyboard, if possible, because it is less likely to go out of tune than other instruments, like a guitar.
Continue to sing all tones you play along the scales. Tap the note C on your keyboard and that note softly before singing louder. Then sing in C major slowly without touching any other key on the keyboard. Finish singing the note C and make sure your intonation is correct correlates with the note C on your keyboard. End the exercise by singing the different notes in the tone, without the keyboard, before using the keyboard to confirm your intonation.
Play the notes that are off the scale, randomly, and sing in the same tone, even if in a different octave. This will help you train your ear to recognise different tones.
Singing tone
1
Determine the section of a song you want to practice singing acapella
2
Touch the base, the third and the fifth tone in which the melody should be sung. For example, play the notes “C,” “Eb” and “G” on your keyboard if you sing “My Funny Valentine”, as the song is in C minor tone.
3
Continue to sing acappella and occasionally touching the appropriate key on the keyboard corresponding to the tune you’re singing. This will help you determine if you are singing in pitch or if you have deviated from the key of the song.
Find the key
1
Think of a song you want to sing. Determines what the first chord of the song is, or more or less. Use your keyboard if necessary. Minor and major chords are determined by the interval between the base note and the third note of the chord. The third note is a major chord tone four means on the basis, as the interval between C and E. The third note of a minor chord three middle tones is based, as in the interval between C and Eb.
2
Use an initial tone and intonation support to start singing a song. Tap the note “A”, for example. Sings a three-note chord based on that note base as explained above.
3
Hum quietly tones “A,” “C” and “E” to find the key of “A” minor. Do the same with “A,” “C #” and “E” to find the key of “A” greater. Use your keyboard if you have questions. This will help you use any random note and find the quality of harmony that matches the song you want to sing.
4
Sing aloud the three notes forming the first chord of the song. This will help you recognize the key of the song. She begins singing a capella no extra instrumental support.
Learn to harmonize
1
Learn to recognize possible harmonies on a melodic line. For example, tap the following notes for a melody shows on your keyboard: C Bb C Db Eb.
2
Sample plays the melody a few times and sing it out loud until you’ve memorized.
3
Sample plays the melody again and simultaneously play the notes below. Db Eb F Eb Gb This next set of notes corresponding to a singer singing more loudly optional harmony with the original melody.
4
Touch the original melody again. Simultaneously plays the following notes: Ab Bb F Ab C. This new set of notes corresponding to a lower voice singing an optional harmony to the original melody.
5
Touch the original melody and simultaneously sings harmonies one of the proposals in steps 3 and 4. Continue playing the melody and singing harmonies of the proposals.
6
Practice notes harmonizing scales. For example, tap C, D, E, F, G, A, B and C on your keyboard and simultaneously sings E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E.
7
Try different harmonies on melodically simple ideas. Repeat this exercise as needed to train your ear and recognize harmonies in all kinds of melodies.
Joining an acappella group may be one of the best ways to improve and learn. Record yourself while you sing acapella and listen to the recordings. This will help you determine where you need to improve.
Contact a singing teacher to give you instructions on breathing, correct use of voice and appropriate exercises.
Caring for your voice. The ability to care for your voice, or maintaining vocal health and prevent diseases should be followed by everyone, especially those who need to use their voices or who have experienced vocal changes. To have a good voice you need good vocal health, and to have good vocal health naturally leads to a clear voice. And who doesn’t want to have the best and clearest voice they can get? This is easier on you and far easier on whoever is listening.
What to do to maintain healthy voice?
Wear comfortable clothes and fabrics that absorb perspiration. light and loose clothing are ideas for those working with the voice. Comfortable shoes promote proper posture.
Sleep regularly, leisure time and adequate physical activity also contribute to a good vocal production.
Watch your breathing. When you breathe properly, it causes air to fill the abdomen and expanding the ribs.
While talking, keep the body upright posture.
Avoid trying to compete with external noise during speech. Be aware of them and try not to increase the volume of your voice in an attempt to overcome them.
Try not to scream. If possible, always choose the microphone to speak in public.
Speak slowly and correctly, and articulating the words, but not overly so.
Have normal hearing is important because the vocal monitoring is performed by the hearing, so if you have any concerns over your hearing get these looked at by a specialist.
Feeling the urge to cough or clear your throat? Breathe deeply through your nose and swallow saliva several times or drink water.
To reduce tension in the region of the shoulders and neck, yawn and stretch several times a day.
After intense voice use, try to give yourself some vocal rest for a while. The ability to relax your voice when needed is vital when caring for your voice
The Enemy Of A Good Voice
Cigarette and any kind of drugs irritate the lining of the vocal tract and increase the feeling of phlegm, also causing changes in the vocal folds.
Alcohol should be avoided. In addition to irritating the lining of the vocal tract, alcohol has an anesthetic effect, which masks the sore throat. The spirits are more harmful than fermented drinks.
Sprays, lozenges and drops also have anesthetic effect, masking symptoms and allowing the continuation of vocal abuse.
Allergies are considered harmful to the voice. Substances such as smoke and dust should be avoided by people who tend to have allergies. Partaking in these can trigger an allergic reaction as they increase the body’s sensitivity by decreasing the bodies defenses.
Sudden changes in temperature are also harmful to voice. Cold or very hot beverages also produce thermal shock to the body.
What You Put In Your Body And Your Voice
Drink plenty of water (at room temperature) while talking in small sips. A permanently hydrated body means vocal cords stay hydrated, this leads to more flexibility and better vibration. The ideal is to drink 7-8 cups per day, however, the color of urine (clear) can assist in the control of adequate hydration. When it comes to caring for your voice water is your friend.
Think about maintaining a balanced diet without lots of time without eating. Also, chew food well so they are easily digested.
Eat apples, they are astringent and naturally clean the vocal tract. Also, chewing exercises the muscles responsible for the articulation of words.
Drinks based on caffeine, soft drinks, fried foods and heavy, greasy or spicy foods can hinder digestion, causing gastroesophageal reflux. If you have a tendency to heartburn and indigestion, avoid these substances. The “burning” can reach the vocal folds and irritates them.
People with a predisposition to vocal disorders should avoid chocolate, milk and dairy products before the intense voice use. These foods increase the secretion of mucus in the vocal tract, which induces the production of phlegm.
Some medications interfere with vocal health. Avoid self-medication. Beware of homemade recipes (ginger, pomegranate, vinegar and garlic). There are no studies that prove the effectiveness of these products.
Your Environment And Caring For Your Voice
Another important factor is the working environment. Discuss with your colleagues and bosses resources to provide a pleasant environment capable of reducing tension and promoting dialogue. A healthy voice is the result of individual care and tension free environment – wherever possible.
Air-conditioned environments should be avoided. In this case, the cooling is done with reduced humidity, which dries out the lining of the vocal tract, damaging the voice.
A noisy work environment, tension and stress will be harmful to a clear voice. They create laryngeal tension, leading to vocal wear.
Yelling is one of the most aggressive things that can happen to the larynx, because the moment you do this there is a “collision” between the vocal folds. For this reason, yelling should be avoided, only being used in moments of danger or survival.
Speaking during the voice exercise: any exercise muscular effort along with speech will cause overload in the laryngeal muscles.
Tips For Caring For Your Voice: Conclusion
Being free of tensions and maintaining proper breathing to speech, is the best way to get the most out of your voice and care for your voice for life. All moving parts of the mouth such as tongue, cheeks, lips, soft palate and jaw must be well placed, producing the oral form of the vowels correctly. It is essential that there is harmony between breathing and articulation so that the voice placement is made naturally. If you really want your voice to be the clearest it can be or you want your a singer wanting to reach the high notes then learning how to use your voice properly is very important.

Tired of Vocal Strain? Find Out How To Relax Your Voice
Let’s talk about vocal strain, or more important how to stop vocal strain. There are few more frustrating things than starting a singing session and finding it uncomfortable or even painful.
So what can we do about this? I’m glad you asked.
Just click the play button below and learn how to remove strain from your voice.
So What Actually Causes Vocal Strain?
Vocal tension in most occasions are caused by bad singing technique. When we discover how to sing with good technique, the majority of those vocal tension issues will vanish. Every note in our singing range should be accessed freely and easily, with absolutely no tension whatsoever. You can find out more ways to get rid of vocal strain here.
The moment you begin singing correctly, it’s like playing a piano… Every key can be pressed easily… No pulling, pushing or straining.
You may be thinking that’s all well and good, but what actually causes vocal tension? Well a majority of vocal tension comes from engaging the muscles that are used to swallow. These are the muscles located outside of the larynx (the larynx is the grouping of muscle and cartilage that contain the vocal chords).
These outer muscles are used when the vocal chords do not receive the right amount of air pressure. If there is too much or too little air being sent to the vocal chords, the chords cannot properly hold together.
The outer muscles then will try to tighten the chords, which in turn forces the larynx up or down. This is the prime source of most vocal tension.
The unfortunate thing is, these outer muscles are extremely inefficient at controlling the vocal chords.
While in some cases, they may be able to adjust the chords to vibrate at the right frequency, you will never produce your richest tone using these extra muscles to control your voice.
Remove Vocal Strain / Vocal Tension… And You Will Increase Your Vocal Range
The biggest issue with vocal strain / vocal tension is it clamps down on the singers range dramatically. A excellent vocal range comes from training your vocal chords to shorten as you go higher into your range. This ‘zipping up’ action is commonly referred to as ‘bridging’.
Here is a article on training that will show you exercises that will increase your vocal range.
Simply by using those outer muscles of the larynx to adjust the vocal chords, your voice will become more and more tense the higher you go in your range. By the time your chords have to “zip up”, your voice is so tense, the chords will not be able to hold together any longer.
Instead of zipping up (which is what you want), they break and form a muscle coordination called falsetto. This result will never have the depth and power of singing on a zipped up chord coordination.
A far worse alternative is that you use the outer muscles to push the larynx upwards in an attempt to reach those high notes. The result is practically shouting! Please try not to sing like this. This will eventualy damage your voice…… permanently.
Not to mention that it sounds horrible, and does not feel comfortable at all.
How To Get Rid Of Vocal Strain / Vocal Tension
What can we do to reduce muscle tension?
The best thing to do to reduce muscle tension is so simple, yet many people overlook this basic practice. Warm up the voice before singing. This is a ESSENTIAL if you want to stay singing at your best, and purest tone.
In a lot of ways singing is like playing sports. We will use certain muscles to get the desired results. Just like you wouldn’t go out running before warmig up (unless you don’t mind cramps and stiffness), the same goes for warmig up those vocal muscles. It basically gets the blood flowing, and the muscles functioning more efficiently.
When you sing without warming up immediately there wil be a limit on your vocal range, and sustaining the high notes.
The most common cause of vocal strain is singing with bad vocal technique. Two years ago, I was a classic example… My technique was so appaling that my voice would feel sore after ever session. I would really feel my larynx spasm during, and even DAYS after a practice.
This occured because I had no idea how to shorten my vocal chords in the higher regions of my range. I would feel intense strain in my throat, and my jaw. The only answer to correcting this, is training these outer muscles to relax while singing.
The great thing about learning to sing is dicovering that the inner muscles of your larynx (the correct singing muscles) can then handle all the vocal chord adjustments, producing the tone with ease. Once these muscles develope, your voice will grow and have incredible range, and fantastic tone, with no vocal tension at all. You will amaze yourself!
To Get Rid Of Vocal Strain We Must:
1. Warm up our voices before singing 2. Develop a technique that allows the outer muscles of the larynx to relax, while the inner (correct) muscles perform the vocal chord adjustments. This is done using the right techniques and exercises that allow our voice to relax and develop our correct singing muscles. A review on the best program that teaches you all these techniques can be found here .
